So why lay a short price with two evenly matched teams? The spot favors the home Hurricanes and my belief that New Jersey rookie goalie Scott Wedgewood has been playing above his head and is due for a slip.

This marks the Devils' third game in four days. They stunned the Penguins, 3-0, this past Thursday in Pittsburgh. The Devils then fell 1-0 to the Capitals in overtime at home. Now they have to travel again for this stand alone road game before returning home to host the Bruins on Tuesday. New Jersey is 2-8 the past 10 times when playing on one day's rest.

The Devils turned to Wedgewood when starting goalie Cory Schneider suffered a knee injury. He won't be back until next week at the earliest. Backup Keith Kinkaid didn't play well in the nets so Devils coach John Hynes rolled the dice on Wedgewood, who has stopped 91 of 93 shots during his three starts. That's remarkable, but it's not going to continue.
