Schule's NHL BEAST of the EAST - *EARLY START*
(NHL) Florida vs. Tampa Bay, 10/09/2014 3:30 PM, Score: 2 - 3
Money Line: -177.00 Tampa Bay (Home)
Result: Win
This is an 8* play on the Tampa Lightning.

The Florida Panthers are to the NHL, what the Jacksonville Jaguars are to the NFL. Perennial bottom feeders with no hopes or expectations of improvement anytime in the near future. Florida is where hockey players go to enjoy the weather, and work on their golf game. Playing for the Panthers is sort of like an early retirement package, with no real danger of being asked to work overtime (play in the post-season).

The Panthers open the season on the road in Tampa, and they lost all four meetings versus the Lightning last season. The Lightning won the Cup a decade ago, and they look primed to make a serious run at another championship this season. Steven Stamkos is back after missing most of last season with a broken leg. Stamkos scored 60 goals in the 2011-2012 season, the only player since to score 60+ since Ovechkin tallied 65 goals in the 2007-2008 season.

Ben Bishop had a career year between the pipes for the Bolts, ranking fourth in the league in wins with 37, and he recorded an impressive .924 save percentage.

The Panthers special teams was by far the worst in the NHL last year, ranking dead last in power-play goals scored, as well as the worst penalty killing percentage. You won't win many hockey games if you lose the battle on special teams.

Take TB.
