Any talk of Florida making the playoffs is just wishful thinking, surely the Panthers don't think they will make up five points on the Senators, especially given that Ottawa has a game in hand. Then there is Boston, who they trail by four points, and they face them twice in their final nine games. Still.. Florida comes into Toronto tonight as a heavy road favorite against a Leafs team that actually has a pretty good record at home. The Leafs aren't a great team, and in Toronto (unlike Florida), that's just not acceptable. This team is under heavy pressure, constantly ridiculed and scrutinized by fans and media. If you thought they were going to just pack it in, keep in mind they out-shot Minnesota 36-32 in a tight 2-1 loss on Monday. That game holds a certain significance, as their home sellout streak dating back to 2002 came to an end. It's those fans that pay their salaries, so when people stop coming to games, it's a real wakeup call for all involved. You can expect this to be a highly motivated Toronto team that takes the ice tonight, and the fact that they are an underdog in a game where they should be a favorite, makes this play too tempting to pass up.
