The Royals own a slim half game lead over the Tigers in the AL Central, and they play Cleveland in Game 3 of this home series at Kauffman Stadium this afternoon. After splitting the first two games, I like the home team in the rubber match.
Corey Kluber will toe the slab for the Tribe, and he's simply not the same pitcher this season that he was last year. Kluber (0-4, 4.62 ERA) was torched for five runs on eight hits over five innings in a loss to the Blue Jays his last time out. It was his third straight poor performance, in fact his previous two starts were far worse.
The Royals hand the ball to Edinson Volquez, who has been a welcome addition to the Royals staff. Volquez (2-3, 2.10 ERA) allowed two runs on five hits over six innings in a 2-1 loss to Detroit his last time out. He's 2-1 with a 1.71 ERA in his three starts at Kauffman Stadium this season.
Volquez will be backed by the best bullpen in the majors, and he's up against a light hitting Cleveland lineup that ranks in the bottom half of the standings in runs scored.
