Schule's MLB MERCHANT of DEATH - **EARLY START**
(MLB) Chi Cubs vs. St. Louis, 05/07/2015 9:45 AM, Score: 1 - 5
Money Line: -115.00 St. Louis (Home)
Result: Win
This is a 10* play on the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Cubs trail the Cardinals by 5.5 games in the division standings, and they will try to salvage a split in this four game series at Busch Stadium here this afternoon. I expect the Cards to bounce back with a win here at home in the series finale.

John Lackey will toe the slab for St. Louis, and he's coming off a win in his last start. Lackey (1-1, 3.69 ERA) allowed one run on six hits over six innings in a 2-1 win over the Pirates his last time out. He's won two of his three starts at home this year, and he's allowed just one run in 13 innings pitched in daylight hours.

The Cubs hand the ball to Jake Arrieta, who was roughed up a little in his last outing. Arrieta (3-2, 2.84 ERA) allowed four runs on seven hits through five innings in a loss to the Brewers. He's been a far better pitcher at home over the years, with an away record of 6-10 with a 4.46 ERA in 30 starts on the road since 2012.

The Cardinals have the lowest ERA by reliever in the major leagues, while the Cubs bullpen is improved from last season, but still well below average.

Take STL.
