The Rangers come into Tampa off three straight wins, and we should expect a pitcher's duel tonight between two red hot starters.
Nick Martinez will toe the rubber for the Rangers, and he's been great for Texas this season. Martinez (2-0, 0.84 ERA) allowed five runs on seven hits over six innings in a no decision versus Oakland his last time out. Only two of those runs were earned, as an error and a freak incident with a ball hitting an umpire near second base sparked a big inning for the A's.
Texas went on to rally and win that game, and they've won all five of his starts so far. He's only allowed one run in 19 innings pitched on the road this season.
The Rays hand the ball to Chris Archer, who has taken the role of ace in Tampa this season. Archer (3-3, 1.64 ERA) was rocked for four runs on six hits over six innings in a loss to Baltimore his last time out.
Archer has been better on the road than he has been at home this season, and that was true last year as well.
