Texas is one of the worst teams in the American League, but the Rangers actually own a winning road record. They've also been better lately, winning eight of their last 14. I like the Rangers chances of roughing up a struggling pitcher here in Boston's hitter's park tonight.
Yovani Gallardo will toe the rubber for the Rangers, and he's been far better than his record shows. Gallardo (3-5, 3.94 ERA) allowed a pair of runs on six hits over seven innings in a win over the Royals his last time out. He's given the Rangers a chance to win in almost all of his starts so far this season, and that's what I expect from him tonight at Fenway. He's only had one start in Boston since 2012, and he won that game holding the Sox scoreless through 6 1/3 innings.
The Red Sox hand the ball to Wade Miley, who was a winner in his last start. Miley (2-4, 5.60 ERA) allowed five hits, walked four and struck out just one batter in 6 2/3 shutout innings in a win at Oakland. It certainly wasn't pretty, and Miley was very fortunate that the A's couldn't cash in on all those baserunners. He hasn't been getting so lucky at Fenway, where he's 0-2 with a 9.64 ERA.
