ESPN Non-Conference Game of the Year

This is no easy task as Wisconsin goes from the Great Lakes to the dessert, traveling 1385 miles to Tempe, much of it south into the heat. A sellout is possible at 71,706-seat Sun Devil Stadium. The Sun Devils 13-4 SU against Big Ten teams in games in Tempe, but 3-11 on the road, showing the distance and climate make this no small home field edge.

Wisconsin lives off the run. ASU spent all offseason focusing on stopping the run. In his last three years at Tulsa, Todd Grahams rushing defenses ranked 37th, 63rd and 34th nationally. In 2011 at Pittsburgh, the Panthers ranked 21st, allowing just 116.9 rushing yards per game. This season, Graham said the Sun Devils should be better for two reasons: Theyre more physical, and theyre deeper along the defensive line, where reserves Mo Latu and Davon Coleman are expected to help.

Arizona State led the nation in tackles for loss per game and ranked second in sacks last season, so the likely improvement against the run makes ASU a strong defense.

The Badgers opened the season against Massachusetts, one of the worst FBS teams, and Tennessee Tech, an FCS team. Heading to the heat against a very good Pac-10 team is a brutal spot after those cupcakes.
