Notre Dame at Purdue
(NCAAF) Fighting Irish (ND) vs. Boilermakers (PUR),
Point Spread: 9.50 | -109.00 Boilermakers (PUR) (Home)
Result: Loss
Though Domers everywhere are wondering if the Justice Department needs to get involved after Notre Dame was shocked last weekend by Northern Illinois, the answer might be more simple. The offense has yet to fire with new QB Riley Leonard, the Duke transfer who to this point doesn't look nearly as good as Sam Hartman did in the pilot's chair a year ago when moving from Wake Forest. The Fighting Irish, who ran up plenty of scores last season for Marcus Freeman, are only scoring 18.5 ppg thus far in 2024. If NIU could cause problems, so might Purdue, with an offense featuring tar RB Devon Mockabee, close to 1000 YR each of the past two years, while vet QB and ex-Texas transfer Hudson Card was "only" 24 for 25 thru the air (that's hard to do even with no defense on the field!) in the Riveters' opener vs. Indiana State. Excited to have the nearby Fighting Irish back on the schedule in what was for decades an annual staple, the Riveters are thinking they can score the upset vs. the Domers for the first time since the long-ago Joe Tiller era.
