After a few weeks of wondering if they had blown their playoff chances, the Braves have arrived and again control their own destiny for the postseason after last night 3-0 win over the Royals behind Max Fried's brilliant work. Reynaldo Lopez is back in the mix tonight on the mound after missing a few weeks due to shoulder problems, but when last seen was as sharp as ever with a 1.88 ERA across five August-September appearances. Atlanta has to keep winning, of course, but pitching looks up to the task after Fried's effort last night, and Chris Sale waiting perhaps for Sunday or possibly one of the doubleheader games on Monday vs. the Mets. Meanwhile, the Royals have already secured their wild card berth, and looked like they had been celebrating a bit much in last night's loss. Seth Lugo is also likely to be on a short leash on Saturday as Matt Quatraro would rather use this as a tune-up for Lugo and not wearing him out too much before getting a start in the upcoming wild card round.
