In the Irony Department, it's interesting that ex-Tiger Matthew Boyd, who toiled for several seasons at Comerica Park, finally gets to pitch in a Detroit postseason game...only it's for the other side (Cleveland, in this case). Activated in August, Boyd was mostly a pleasant surprise down the stretch for for Stephen Vogt, with a 2.72 ERA, though he only pitched beyond four innings once in four September starts. No matter, this ahis actually looks a decent price to give a whirl with Tarik Skubal (18-4, 2.39 ERA), the odds-on favorite to win the AL Cy Young Award. Skubal was on fire down the stretch, posting a 1.52 ERA in four September starts. Then, in Game One vs. the Astros in the wild card round, he pitched six flawless innings, allowing just 4 hits with no runs, in a 3-1 Tigers win. Note that since early August, Detroit has won in eight of Skubal's ten starts, and he got a win in his only start vs. the Guardians back on July 22, allowing just one run in 7 IP of an 8-2 win.
