Herb Sendek has reasons to be concerned about Santa Clara's early-season performance, struggling with his rotations and looking for somebody to start hitting three-pointers. To date, no one doing so, as the Broncos labor at 26.2% from deep. On the plus side, Canadian juco wing Elijah Maji is scoring at near 17 ppg with a slashing style eerily similar to Sendek's other featured wing, Adama Alpha Bal (15 ppg). We suspect Sendek is going to find a way to make this combo work in tandem, as they also provide good size on the perimeter. The floor will open more when the Broncos relocate their radar on the triples (perhaps boomerang transfer G Carlos Stewart, just 15% from downtown, snaps out of his shooting funk funk). A veteran UCR lineup is capable, already involved in higher-scoring games at Oregon and BYU, with soph G Barrington Hargress (19.2 ppg) looking like one of the Big West's top threats.
