The countdown continues as Alex Ovechkin's chase of Wayne Gretzky's record 894 goals is now down to one hand, just three to tie at 894 and four to pass the Great One to become perhaps the newest Great One in the NHL. What the recent push for Ovie's goals has done is accelerate the pace of Washington's games which have been featuring lots of goals lately and "over" in four of the past five. Though alarmingly for Spencer Carbery, it's been the Caps leaking goals that have been a recent issue, conceding 15 across the past three games. Logan Thompson's recent work in Washington's goal hasn't been so sharp (allowed seven on Sunday vs. the Sabres), and while the Canes are effectively locked into their 2-slot in the Metropolitan and a likely first-round date vs. the Devils, the offense has been sharp in wins over the Canadiens and Isles into tonight, with Seth Jarvis scoring twice in the Sunday 6-4 win over the Islanders.
