Braves at Orioles
(MLB) Braves (ATL) vs. Orioles (BAL),
Money Line: -124.00 Orioles (BAL) (Home)
Result: Win
Listless. Flat. Uninspired. Pick your description for the current plight of the Braves, who seem to have stalled in June and certainly on this road trip between the Baltimore and D.C. beltways, swept by the Nats on the weekend and a 4-0 loser in the series opener at Camden Yards last night. Among other things, body language suggests something is amiss, as the sans-Ronald Acuna version of the Atlanta offense continues to struggle, and the Braves well beneath .500 (15-20) since early May. And as a reminder to Fani Willis and other fans who might think Atlanta is simply biding its time before making a late charge like 2021 (when actually beneath .500 into August before winning the World Series), the Mets were still within shouting distance in the division three years ago, not over the horizon like the Phils are now. The O's are simply playing much better evidenced by their five straight wins, which takes precedent over any pitching analysis featuring two rookies who have struggled in limited work (the Braves' Spencer Schwellenbach and the Birds' Cade Povich).
