In a season filled with quick turnarounds and short streaks, right now it looks like Padres are early in a down cycle, while the Rangers might be starting an ascent. That's because San Diego has stalled offensively in consecutive losses while being outscored 11-1, and counting upon struggling rookie Adam Mazur (7.25 ERA in five appearances) to provide a quick boost might be nothing more than wishful thinking. That might also be the case with Jon Gray on the Texas side as he had a couple of very bumpy rides in June, but it's still the same Gray who posted a sparkling 1.52 ERA across his April and May work.
