We agree the criticisms of Gareth Southgate have been overly harsh; it might be that Southgate's low-risk style, and keeping games in the balance until one of his various stars can create a deciding goal in the last minutes, might actually be a viable one. As an England insider has noted, Southgate cannot be faulted for his record, but frankly has taken thoroughbreds and made them look like dray horses, playing people out pf position and keeping game changers on the bench. Truth is teams go into England games 'respectful' of the pace and precision of EPL and relax when they see that Southgate puts the limiters in the very thing that scares them. Spain might not be scared anyway and will stretch England as no other side has done in this event. In the end there will be severe pressure put on England from the flanks with now 17-year-old Yamine Lamal and Nico Williams, and don;t underestimate the return of Dani Carvajal and Robin LeNormand to the backline, and Alvaro Morata's ability to chase at the top of the defensive alignment, even if his scoring touch remains inconsistent. The difference, however, might well be in the middle of the pitch where Rodri simply has no equal these days. Play Spain on Money Line
